Learning

In recent years, Realife has tried to break away from traditional funding routes to ensure that people get support from every government and non-government source available to them.

We managed a £170,000 contract with Essex Learning and Skills Council for our 2001-2003 'People Skills' project. This recognised the learning that goes on in one to one support relationships and was shared between our OnSite, Frontline and Mentoring programmes.

All of these projects work on an individual basis with learners and are leading to the accreditation of courses in person centred planning, mentoring and theatre skills through the Open College Network.

We are now working with St.Elizabeth's Specialist Tertiary College in Hertfordshire to build in effective transition plans for all college leavers, focucing on the use of direct payments and indivual budgets

Essex Learning and Skills Council ‘People Skills’

‘People Skills’ was a training, guidance and mentoring project funded by the Local Implementation Fund of the Essex Learning and Skills Council. This represents the Trust first major grant specifically for mainstream training. The work on 'Life Coaches' is being continued in an adapted form in our major ESF Inclusion Worker project due to complete in July 2007

Person centred planning

Realife has been providing person centred support to local people since it's inception in 1996. The original concept centred on the idea that a small but committed team of people with a background in social care services and social enterprise could halp a few local friends with personal impairments to get their life of their choice using currently available resources for all government, non-government and community sources. This idea has proved to be successful and the Trust continues to work as an action research project at local, regional and national level to promote self-determined support services in advocacy, brokerage, leisure and supported living
