Relationships are at the heart of all of our work. Everyone involved in Realife is personally committed to a joint vision of a more inclusive society and a more sustainable lifestyle. This is the basis of our energy and our most precious resource.
Although we have perhaps come a long way since the Trust was set up at home with no paid staff, no premises and no funding, the basic building block of personal committment has remained in tact. By the time we moved on from our office base of 15 years in July 2010, the charity had returned full circle to its roots as a sustainable local development trust operating outside of the normal funding route of contrats and short term projects.
This has a direct effect on the design of our projects and has heavily influenced our person centred planning, training and advocacy initiatives. We help to build support circles for people to provide more sustainable lifestyles as a standard approach.
We also tend to create projects around key individuals who have demonstrated integrity, committment and energy rather than rely on job advertisments or simply jump on the bandwagon of the latest funding fad.
By working alongside each other as equals; as coworkers together regardless of status, impairment or qualification, we are learning first hand about the subtle but powerful value of continuity and consistency. |
